Packer Clinch Share of Conference Crown

25 Feb

With a 78-43 rout of Rochester John Marshall Friday night, the Austin Packers have guaranteed themselves at least a share of the Big Nine conference title for the first time since 1999.

The Packers are a full game ahead of both Owatonna and Mankato East, and host the Huskies next Friday in the season finale with a chance to claim solo possession of the crown.

It was Senior Night on Friday, and the Packers used a balanced scoring attack and defense that led to layups to cruise to victory. Zach Wessels led the way with 18 points, while Tom Aase had 14, Nate Schwab 12, Goliath Oboyo 9, Joe Aase and Zach Vierkandt 6 each, Bret Lukes 5 and Collin Weisert and Ryan Larson 4 each. See the story in the Austin Daily Herald.

Here are the highlights:

The conference showdown is next Friday, but the Packers have one game before that, traveling to Caledonia tonight for their last non-conference matchup.

Packers Impressive in Century Scrimmage

The Packers matched up first with Stewartville, with about half of the one-hour session devoted to half-court situations before a brief full-court session. The second-round against Winona Cotter was all full-court scrimmaging. Scores weren’t kept against either, but the boys looked sharp.

In the final session, the Pack faced off in a simulated 20-minute game against JM. Here are some of the highlights of the 41-16 win:
