Season update

The Packers have continued to find success this season with some signature wins along the way.  Since the Holiday break Austin has gone 15-1 to bring their record to 22-1.  Along the way the Packers picked up big wins defeating ranked AAA Mankato East twice, Section rival Northfield twice, winning a road game against AA power house Minnehaha Academy and Beating Rochester John Marhsall.  The only loss on the season came to Owatonna at home.  Tonight The Packers travel to Owatonna to try to avenge their only loss in an important game for Big 9 standings.

Austin is currently on top of the Big 9 standings with a 18-1 conference record.  Right behind the Packers are the John Marhsall Rockets at 17-2.  The Huskies are currently in third at 16-3.  With a win in Owatonna the Packers will most likely clinch at least a share of the Big 9 title going into their last two games against Albert Lea and John Marhsall.

Packers stay undefeated during the holiday break.

Austin Moved to 9-0 with three wins over the holiday break.  After four conference wins against Mankato West,  Faribault, Red Wing, and Winona the Packers played in the Lakeville North holiday tournament.  In the first game Austin beat AAAA Forest Lake 77-68.  Senior Duoth Gach scored his 1,000th career point in the win.  Here is a link to the Austin Daily Herald article about the game.

Friday they faced off against #9 ranked Lakeville North of class AAAA.   Austin won the game 71-65 thanks to 10 first half 3 pointers.  Here is a link to the Austin Daily Herald article about the game.

Last night Austin beat Rochester Century on the road 72-60 Tuesday night.  Austin built a big lead early and survived a late run when the Panthers cut the lead to 8.  Austin has a big game at Northfield Friday night.  The following week will have three good tests with Mankato East at home Tuesday, Mayo on the road Thursday and a big show down with John Marshall on Saturday at home.

Packers pick up win against #8 Totino-Grace

Austin traveled up to the Lindberg Center in Hopkins to take on a ranked AAA opponent on Saturday.  The #7 ranked Packers forced Totino-Grace into 25 turnovers in the win.  The boys are home against Mankato West on Tuesday and then travel to Fairbault Friday.

Coach Fadness picked up his 300th win as the Coach of the Packers.  A huge part of the success we have had at Austin is due to the amount of time and energy he puts into this program.  We are lucky to have him as our coach.

Packers Move to 1-0 with win over Tigers.

The Austin Packers opened up their season with a 93-34 win over the Albert Lea Tigers.  Austin will be back in action December 12th at home vs. Mankato West.

Packers stay hot going into showdown with John Marshall.

The Packers have put themselves in a postion to share the Big 9 title with a win this Friday against Rochester John Marshall.  Austin sits at 24-1 overal and 20-1 in the conference.  The Packers only loss of the year came on the road to John Marshal 75-64 in January. 

Austin has won some tough games in February, beating Owatonna twice and winning on the road against Northfield.  

Tickets for Fridays home game against John Marshall are being sold early at the athletics office.  A huge crowd is expected for the game.  

Monday and Tuesday bring two more wins for the Packers.

The Packers played a rare Monday/Tuesday back to back to pickup two more wins.  They were the 3rd and 4th games in the last 6 days for Austin.

Monday the Austin traveled to Kasson-Mantorville.  This was a rescheduled game from an earlier snow out.  Austin led 50-45 at halftime.   Both teams shot the ball well and played at a fast pace.  Austin started the second half with an 11-0 run and never looked back.  Duoth hit seven 3’s on his was to 29 points. Both had 20 points and 8 assists.    Austin won the game 91-74.

Tuesday was a homegame vs. Red Wing.  Earlier in the year the Wingers played Austin tough losing 65-62 in Red Wing.  The first half Tuesday was close most of the way.  In the second half Austin attacked the paint and pulled away for good. The Packers won 75-53.  Both Gach had 21 points, Oman had 12 and Hebrink added 10.   

Austin is currently 18-1.  They are in first place in section 1AAA and are in second place in the Big 9 conference behind Rochester John Marshal.  The Pack are on the road at Rochester Century this Friday.  

Packers sit at 16-1 after Thur and Friday wins.

Austin passed a tough test in Owatonna Thursday night and had to grind out a come back win Friday in Faribault.

Thursday in Owatonna didn’t start well for the Packers.  Owatonna started out hot thanks to the shooting of Dalton Kubista. Kubista  scored 16 of Owatonna’s first 21 points.

Both Gach led Austin with 21 points, six rebounds and seven assists.  Austin held a 2 point lead with around seven minutes left before icing the game late.  Austin won 72-62. 

Friday the Packers started fast and jumped out to a big lead early but the Falcons fought back and kept it close the rest of the way.  Hebrink had a nice floor game with 12 points, five  assists and four steals.  Austin won the game 58-53.
