Packers win big at Century.

The Packers beat Rochester Century 71-42 on the road Friday night.  Austin had ten different players score in the win.  Austin’s pressure defense led to a lot of fast break layups for the Pack.  Leading Austin was Mark Manyuon, Duoth Gach, and Jace Murray with 12 points each.

The Packers next game is Tuesday December 22nd in Winona against the Winhawks.

Packers lose tough game to Red Wing.

On Tuesday December 15th the #5 Ranked Packers hosted the #2 ranked Wingers.  Red wing came into the game undefeated at 7-0.  Austin held a 29-26 lead at halftime as Jace Murray hit a three pointer right before the half ended.  The Packers led by as many as 9 in the second half, before Red Wing evened the game at 50-50.  The Packers then went into a scoring drought as Red Wing went on 9-0 run to take a 59-50 lead.  After a few free throws for Red Wing, Hebrink hit a 3 at the buzzer to end the game.  Red Wing won 62-53.  Here is a link to the Daily Herald article.

Red Wing was led by Travis Toivonen who scored 22 points and helped create offense for his teammates by drawing defenders down low.  Toivonen also had 9 rebounds.  Joe Sevlie had 14 points and 6 boards.  Red Wing Shot almost 60 percent from the floor and outrebounded Austin by 11.

Austin was led by Sophmores Tate Hebrink and Both Gach who both scored 10. Kyle Oberbrockling and Zach Coffey led the team in rebounds with 5 and 4.  Tate Hebrink and Mark Manyoun had 3 steals each.

The Packers next game is Friday in Rochester at Century.  The Panthers are currently 1-7 after winning their last game against Albert Lea.

Packers lose to John Marshall.

On December 11th the Packers hosted the #5AAAA Rockets.  The Rockets are lead by brothers Michael and Matthew Hurt.  Michael is a senior who will be playing basketball at the U of M next year.  Matthew is a freshman who already has numerous D1 offers.

The Rockets came out shooting and had a big lead to start the game. Michael had 5 three pointers and scored 20.  Matthew scored 31 and hit 3 three pointers of his own.  D’Angelo Tines added 12.  The Rockets were 13-27 from the three point line.

The Packers were lead by Junior Kyle Oberbroeckling who had 13 points and 6 rebounds.  Senior Jace Murray scored 11 and also had 6 rebounds.  The Packers fought hard inside against the much bigger Rockets but couldn’t overcome the Rockets hot shooting.  Here is a link to the Daily Herald article.

Oman Oman hits full court buzzer beater for the win!

The Packers were down 2 with 1.6 seconds left on the clock.  Oman grabbed the rebound off the missed free throw and threw it the length of the court as time expired to give Austin a 56-55 win.  The Packer fans rushed the court as the crowd erupted!  Northfield’s fans stood in disbelief as the team mobbed Oman!  The win moves Austin to 4-0 on the year.  Austin will have another big test on Friday when Rochester John Marshal comes to town.Click here to watch the Video on Youtube!

The Packers next game is Friday at home vs. John Marshall.

*Update Overnight the video has been spreading around the internet.

**Update #2 Oman has gone Viral.  The video of Oman’s shot is spreading like wild fire across the internet.  I have been getting requests from news outlets around the country to use the video.  The Basketball twitter page has been re tweeted and referenced thousands of times.  The video is on numerous news websites and popular sports websites!  The associated press requested permission to post the video, and now it is showing up on websites and news stations across the country.

***Update #3 I cant’ keep up with the number of websites and TV stations that have featured the clip.  Oman has officially taken over the internet.

Austin Moves to 3-0 with win over Mayo.

The Packers used some hot shooting and defensive pressure to beat the Mayo Spartans 79-50.  Austin was led by the Gach brothers who each hit multiple 3’s and both threw down big dunks off of turnovers.  Douth had 15 points and Both had 12.  Oman Oman and Mark Manyoun had 11.  Here is a link to the Austin Daily Herald Article.  The Packers will face their biggest test of the season tomorrow night when they face off against the 4-1 Raiders in Northfield.  The Raiders were ranked 2nd in the class 3A state rankings before their loss to Red Wing.
