22 Mar

This just in from the Austin High School Activities Director, Lisa Quednow-Bickler:

We will be having a welcome home celebration for our boys basketball team on Sat. night in Knowlton Auditorium.

The doors (#1, #5) will be open to the public at 10:30 pm

The celebration will begin when the team arrives home.

A chance to recognize and celebrate a great season for our Austin Packer Boys Basketball team and community of Austin.

Please join us for the game at 6 p.m. Saturday, whether you ride the bus or take a carpool. If you can’t make it in person, the game will be broadcast in the Austin area on KAAL-TV Digital 6.2 or you can listen to the call from Dan Bettlach and Jim “Voice of the Packers” Lemar on KAUS AM 1480. For Packer expatriates, you can  watch it live on Prep45.com or listen to the KAUS stream.

Then come out at 10:30 for a great community celebration of a season to remember!

Bring the Red Sea to Target Center!

22 Mar

Band and Student TC

The Austin Packers are playing in the State Class AAA Championship Game Saturday night, and Austin High School has arranged for student fan buses to help bring a wave of Red to fill Target Center. Here’s the announcement from the school district:

Austin High School has reserved six student fan buses for the game on Saturday. Cost will be $6.00 for the fan bus.  Permission slips can be picked up at Austin High School on Friday, March 22, 2013 during regular school hours, or you can Download the form here.

Signed permission slips can be turned in to the Cashiers Office on Friday, March 23, 2013 and they can also be turned in from 8:00 – 10:00 AM on Saturday, March 23, 2013 in the Cashiers Office in the high school. Fan buses will load at 2:45 PM and depart at 3:00 PM. Buses should return to Austin around 11:00 PM.

Note that we were only able to secure school buses, so these buses are open to both students and adults, but the charge for adults to ride the bus is $10. Elementary and middle school students may ride the bus only if accompanied by a parent. Riders will need to purchase their game admission tickets when they arrive at Target Center. Student tickets are $9 and Adult tickets $14.

Top 10 Reasons to Ride the Packer Express to Williams Arena

19 Mar

Bus

The Packers open State Tournament play tomorrow at 2 p.m. against Blake at Williams Arena. Here are 10 reasons why riding the Packer Express is the best way to join them:

  1. No-Hassle Parking. It’s much easier to find a parking spot in downtown Austin, before boarding the bus, than it is on the U of M campus.
  2. Save Big Money. At the standard IRS mileage rate (plus parking), if you were car-pooling you would need to have five adults (or 20 students) riding with you just to break even. So riding the bus means you will have…
  3. More Money for Souvenirs. Use what you save on gas and mileage to help Paint The Barn Red. Get your Packer Paraphernalia (shirts and towels) at Games People Play.
  4. Get there Relaxed and Ready to Roar. No need to fight traffic or worry about arriving late. Leave that to the professionals. You’ll be dropped off right at the arena entrance.
  5. Community Spirit. Celebrate the Packers’ success this year with your friends in a festive atmosphere.
  6. Time for Creativity. Brainstorm and practice new cheers and chants together on the way.
  7. Psychological Impact. There’s nothing like a wave of Red sweeping into the seats of an arena, as Packer fans stream in together. Be part of that wave!
  8. Be Like the Packers. After the Pep Fest tomorrow morning the Packers will board a bus to Minneapolis. Go and do likewise.
  9. It’s Better than a Snow Day. Getting out of school is great, but a state tournament game is an experience you will never forget.
  10. You can sing along with “The Wheels on the bus go round and round…” all through Minneapolis!

Get your bus reservation forms here, and be sure to turn them in with payment at the AHS Activities Office by noon today!
