Packers beat East with hot shooting.

The Packers beat Mankato East 81-67 on Tuesday January 5th.  Austin trailed early but went on a 17-2 run late in the first half to take control.  East was never able to get it closer than 10 points the rest of the game.

Jace Murary led Austin with 16 points anf 11 rebounds.  Both Gach added 13.  Kyle Oberbroeckling had 12 and Jany Gash had 11.

The Packers next game is Home against Albert Lea on Friday.

Pack back on track after beating Mankato West.

Austin bounced back from a tough loss to Caledonia with a 72-69 win over Mankato West Saturday night at home.  The first half saw a fast tempo from both teams.  Austin went into the half down 38-31.

Austin started the second half strong going on a 17-5 run to open the half.  Senior Jace Murray and Junior Jany Gash led the run for the Packers.  Murray used a variety of post moves to get open looks underneath.  He also stepped out and hit a 3.  Jany Gash made the most of his first career start  by hitting two 3’s during the start of the second half  and ending the game with 15 points.

Scoring for Austin were Murray with 22, Duoth Gach with 19,  Jany Gash with 15, Both Gach and Hebrink with 5, Coffey and Anderson with 3.  The Packers next game is Tuesday Jan. 5th at home vs. Mankato East.

Packers lose to Caledonia Warriors.

Poor shooting and turnovers led to a blow out loss to Caledonia at Winona State University.  Caledonia used a switching man to man defense to force turnovers.  The Warriors were able to spread out on offense and attack gaps leading to numerous layups and baskets underneath.   

Austin was lead by Sophmore Duoth Gach with 10 points.  Zach Coffey and Jany Gash added 6.  Austin is back in action Saturday at home vs.Mankato West.  Normal game times at all levels.

The Pack won in dramatic fashion December 29th at Winona State University.  Minneapolis Washburn featured 7’1 Charlie Irmiger who will be attending Winona State next year to play basketball.

It was a fast paced game which featured numerous lead changes.  Austin held a lead point lead after a Both Gach layup and free throw.  Irmiger came back and had a three point play of his own.  Austin was able to run the clock down and call a timeout to setup a final play.  When the play broke down the ball ended up in Duoth’s hands in the corner.  He took one dribble and faded away to create space.  He was able to get a high arching shot up over a Washburn defender and it drew nothing but net.  The Packers moved to 7-2 with the win.  The Packers play at Winona State again Thursday December 31st at 2:45 vs. Caledonia.

The Packers won their last game before Holiday break in Winona 72-64.  Austin was lead by sophmore Duoth Gach who scored a team high  23 points.  Senior Jace Murray added 19.

The game was close most of the way and Winona pulled within 3 at 56-53 late in the second half.  Both Gach closed the door on Winona when he scored 7 straight points.

Austin had 9 players score and made 11 of 12 free throws.
