Austin wins 7th in a row in Faribault.

The Packers gutted out a physical 52-42 win on the road tonight against Faribault. The Falcons played a mix of physical man and 2-3 zone.  They were patient on offense to slow down the pace of the game.  Austin was up 4 late in the first half before two quick Falcons scores tied the game.  

Austin turned up the defensive pressure in the second half which created some easier fast break baskets.  Austin forced 21 turnovers for the game.  

Duoth Gach had 14 points, 6 rebounds and 2 steals to lead Austin. Jace Murray had 11 points, 2 rebounds and 2 steals.  The Packers again showed great deprh with 8 different players scoring.  

Faribault was led by Kade Hart with 17 points.  The Packers are back in action Thursday away at Rochester Mayo.

Packers win 6th straight against Winona

The boys showed great balance as they beat the Winhawks 77-60 at home on Tuesday night.  Austin had eleven differnt players score in the win.

Austin was led by Douth Gach, Tate Hebrink and Jany Gash who all had 10 points.  Gash scored all 10 of his points in the second half.  All three players hit two 3’s during the game.  As a team Austin hit 13 three point shots, while shooting 40 perecnt from behind the arc.

Winona was led by Oscar Hedlin who had 20 points and 4 rebounds.  The Winhawks had a strong shooting night making over 40% of their 3’s and shooting 57% from the floor.  The difference in the game was the turnovers.  Austin was able to force Winona into 25 turnovers, while only commiting 7 themselves.

The 4th ranked Packers will play at Faribault on Friday night looking for their 7th straight win.  Faribault is 9-7 overall and 6-6 in the conference.

Packers beat West in Mankato

The Packers started the second half of their big nine schedule by winning on the road against West 78-65.  The team was lead by Sophomore Duoth Gach who had a career-high 25 points.  Duoth hit 6 three pointers while adding 5 rebounds and 3 assists.   Jace Murray had 16 points, 7 boards, 3 assists and 2 steals.  Mark Manyuon had 12 points, 3 assists and 2 steals.

Others scoring for the packers were Elijah Andersen with 7, Both Gach  6, Kyle Oberbroeckling 6, Oman Oman 5 and Zach Coffey 1.

Packers beat Huskies.

The Packers beat Owatonna 73-66 on Tuesday in Packer gym.  Austin was up by as many as 17 in the second half but Owatonna never went away.  The Huskies has the ball down 5 with under a minute left until Austin’s defense forced a turnover.

Scoring for the Packers were Kyle Oberbroeckling with a career high 19, Both Gach with 13, Duoth Gach with 12.  Zach Coffey had 10,  Jace Murray with 7, Elijah Andersen with 5, Oman Oman had 4 and Tate Hebrink added 3.

Packer Boys win rivalry game against Tigers

The Packers beat the Albert Lea Tigers 78-63 Friday night in Packer gym.  The Tigers were within 5 in the first half, but the Packers held a double digit lead most of the night and the game never felt like it was in Jeopardy.

Austin had 10 different players score in the game led by Duoth and Both Gach who had 12 and 11.  Austin hit multiple threes against the Tiger zone.  The Packer  outside shooting has been more consistent the last few games which has helped Austin put up more points recently.

Tuesday the Packers will face Owatonna at home in an important conference game.  Austin currently sits in 3rd place in the Big 9 with their only conference losses coming to Red Wing and John Marshall.  Owatonna is 6-4 in the conference and 8-5 overall.
