Packers fall to Mankato East

15 Feb

The Big 9 has been a battle this year and the Packers have competed well, but came up short on Thursday night to Mankato East, 69 to 65.  The Packers held a 1 point lead at the half but had 5 minute scoreless stretch that saw East pull ahead and win by 4.  The Big 9 has some great teams this year and this has provided the Packers great opportunity to play in some great contests.  Due to the level of competition Austin has played this year, we are still rated 13th in the QRF rankings.

Austin has two more regular season home games left this season.  Tuesday, Feb. 17th, will be Senior Night, as the Packers take on the Albert Lea Tigers.  Friday night they will finish the regular season at home vs Owatonna.

Packers take Red Wing to OT

8 Feb

The Pack played a great game in front of a fantastic crowd Friday night but just came up short in overtime, losing to Red Wing 56 to 52.  Austin had the #3 ranked team in the state on the ropes, but did not close out the game.  One thing is sure, Austin was not intimidated by Red Wing and looked like the better team much of the game, but Red Wing led by Ty Buck hit a few big shots late and kept Austin from getting the victory.

The Packers were supported by a huge hometown crowd wearing Pink for the Paint the Town Pink Game.  The Fast Break Club again organized the event and donated the funds from the T-shirt sales, half-time hoop shoot and the pass the bucket free-will donations to the Hormel Institute.  Thank you to everyone who came out to the game and supported their fight against cancer.

Austin will be on the road Tuesday as they take on Rochester Century.

Austin scoring: Gach Gach, 17; Levi Vierkandt, 14; Both Gach, 9; Zach Coffey, 8; Tate Hebrink, 3; Noah Brehmer, 1; free throws: 50 percent (10-for-20); rebounds: 25 (Gach, 10); turnovers: 5
