Packers Impressive in Century Scrimmage

28 Nov

The Packers looked strong today in a scrimmage held at Century High School in Rochester. Six teams were involved, including Austin, Albert Lea, Century, Rochester John Marshall, Stewartville and Winona Cotter.

The Packers matched up first with Stewartville, with about half of the one-hour session devoted to half-court situations before a brief full-court session. The second-round against Winona Cotter was all full-court scrimmaging. Scores weren’t kept against either, but the boys looked sharp.

In the final session, the Pack faced off in a simulated 20-minute game against JM. Here are some of the highlights of the 41-16 win:

Getting Ready for the 2010-2011 Season

9 Nov

Coach Fadness held the first team meeting for the 2010-11 season tonight, giving players and their parents an overview of what to expect in the next several months.

While captains’ practices have already started — led by seniors Max Coffey, Matt Duren, Jay Ettinger and Zach Fadness —  the team will officially start workouts with coaches on Monday, Nov. 22. Meanwhile, some of the boys have been participating in a fall tune-up league in Bloomington, where they are undefeated through the first eight games.

Expect the 2010-11 edition of the Packers to feature an athletic, up-tempo style, taking advantage of depth and team speed.

Getting Ready for the 2007-2008 Season

10 Nov

You may be hearing the faint sounds of basketballs bouncing on the court.  That is the sound of boys from Austin High School loosening up and refining their basketball skills.  It is not unusual to see more than a dozen guys playing pick up games at Ove Berven.  The weight room is not an unfamiliar place either.  The guys will be bigger and faster this year due to their own diligence of effort in staying in shape year-round.

Dust off your stadium cushions and join the guys in their first intra-squad scrimmage on December 1st (time yet to be announced) at Austin High School.  It will be a chance to meet the players of this year’s squad, followed by dinner in the Austin High School cafeteria.  Come and get an autograph from your favorite player!

Their first game is a non-conference game against Saint Louis Park at 3:30 pm on Saturday, December 8th.  It’s a great day to be a Packer!  See you there!
