Pack Pick up road win against Mankato East

Packers earn hard fought road win.Austin came away with a hard fought win in Mankato on Friday night. The Cougars were coming off an impressive overtime win against the then undefeated Red Wing Wingers. Both teams hit numerous three pointers to start the game in a fast paced first half. Austin lead 35-34 at halftime.  

The second half was close most of the way until Both Gach took over. Both made. Consecutive steals and dunks on back to back possessions to seal the game for Austin. Both finished the game with 20 points, 4 steals, 4 rebounds and 3 assists.

Scoring for Austin – Both Gach 20, Duoth Gach 12, Oman 8, Manyuon 8, Hebrink 8, Oberbroeckling 7, Coffey 7, Murray 2.

The Boyd finish the regular season this week with three games on the road. Tuesday will be in Albert Lea, Thursday in Byron, and Friday in Owatonna.  

Big win on Senior night!

The Packers had a blow out win to celebrate Senior night Tuesday against Century.  The highlight of the night was provided by senior Deng Deng.  Deng made the most of his opportunity on the court by hitting all four of his 3’s.  The crowd went crazy when Deng hit his second three shortly after his first.  

Everything was working for the Packers offensivly.  Austin held a 51-19 lead at halftime.  Everyone on the roster made it into the game and got a chance to play.  12 different players scored for Austin.

Thank you to our seniors and our parents for everything you have done to support the basketball program.

Packers can’t over come slow first half in loss to Red Wing.

A slow first half was too much to overcome as the Packers lost to #1 AAA Red Wing on the road tonight.
Poor shooting and good Red Wing defense limited Austin to 13 first half points. Red Wing was able to hit a few three’s and a buzzer beater from 17 feet to go into the half leading a 25-13.  
Austin clawed back in the second half getting as close as 6 with a little over four minutes left. Red Wing was able to make enough free throws down the stretch to close out the game.

Scoring for Red Wing – Toivonen 14, Sevlie 14, Munson 12, Bryan 10, Kelly 3, Adams 3.
Austin is back in action Tuesday at home vs. Century. It is our last regular season home game of the year. Come out and show support for your seniors.  

Pack can’t keep up with hot shooting Rockets.

Austin lost to the John Marshal Rockets 73-56 Thursday night in Rochester. Austin was led by Duoth Gach with 18 points. Murray had 9, Hebrink and Andersen had 7, Coffey added 6, Manyuon had 5, Both and Oberbroeckling scored 2.
The Rockets had a balanced scoring attack led by Matthew Hurt with 18. Tines added 14, Chan had 12, Walden had 10. The Rockets hit 12 of 23 three pointers and also had many second chance points off of offensive rebounds.  
Austin has another tough test Saturday when we travel to RedWing Saturday to play the undefeated Wingers.

Packers pick up a couple more wins!

The boys won two more games this past week by defeating Rochester Mayo on the road Thursday, and then beating Northfield at home on Friday.  Austin has won their last 9 games, and are 16-3 overall.

Thursday’s game in Mayo was close until the last 5 minutes when Austin was able to pull away.  Both teams shot a high percentage with Austin being led by Duoth Gach who only missed one shot on the night.  Duoth ended up hitting 5 of 6 three pointers for 21 points.  Jace Murray added 11, Oman Oman had 8 and Tate Hebrink scored 7.

Friday’s game against Northfield had the feeling of playoff basketball.  The gym was packed packed for paint the gym pink night and the big crowd was rewarded with a great game.  Northfield came into the game ranked 10th in the class AAA.  The first time the two teams played it took a full court shot from Oman Oman at the buzzer to win the game for Austin.

Senior Jace Murray again filled the stats sheets with 19 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists.  Duoth Gach scored 25 and had 3 steals.  Both Gach had 13 points, and Oman Oman added 11.  Here is a link to the Daily Herald article

The Nothfield win was an important one for the Packers because it puts them in very good shape for section standings.  Austin is currently second in the section behind 19-0 Red Wing.  Austin is 6-1 in the section with an overal record of 16-3.  Northfield is third in the section with a 3-4 record, 12-8 overall.

The Packers will have two tough games this week.  Austin will travel to Rochester to take on #9 AAAA John Marshall Thursday, and will then travel to #2 AAA Red Wing to take on the undefeated Wingers.
